"My friends, Pastor John Soper and wife Mimi, have blessed the Body of Christ with developing Mission 119. This study tool gives an individual, small group or an entire congregation the ability and encouragement to acquire a comprehensive understanding and application of the Scriptures. The flexibility and format of Mission 119 is a benefit to keep a person engaged. I personally like to hear Pastor Soper's insights on the daily Bible readings and the additional recommended Bible study helps. You will expand your love for the Lord and his Word as you participate in Mission 119."
My name is Izzi Elliott. I am a family physician/obstetrician working at Bongolo Hospital in Gabon. I’m sure that as a CMA pastor, you know of the mission here. Though I am not CMA, I’m seconded from the Presbyterian Evangelistic Fellowship, I have come to know and love the Alliance through my time here.
I’m writing today to thank you for the work that you did in putting together Mission 119. The pastor who came out for our last Team Time (read Field Forum) introduced us to the idea, and we decided to work through the series as a team. We read on our own four days a week and get together on Wednesday nights to read and discuss as a team. We are currently on Week 24, and the timing of this particular portion could not be better. Though I have neither the time, nor the freedom to share all the details, you should know that Joshua is seeing our team through a very rough period of transition. I’ve read that book many times, but Joshua has never seemed so very real nor so powerful as it is to me, and to my team, right now. As we work through the Word together, we see it shaping us, our thoughts, and our plans. Reading through the Word together has been beneficial on an individual level, but even more so on a team level, as the Holy Spirit draws us closer and closer together. It is amazing to see how what we are studying at any given time impacts our conversations in the hospital. We see the Word being directly applicable to the planning of surgeries and the building of new eye clinics. It changes how we see and respond to one another, to our national colleagues, and to our patients. Even the children on station look forward to hearing you speak and are learning alongside us.
Thank you for your love for and knowledge of the Word. Thank you for all the time and effort that you poured into this project. Thank you for providing us with this tool. To God be the glory!
Our missionary team started Mission 119 after a visiting pastor suggested it to us at a team retreat 77 weeks ago. Since then we have grown both as individuals and as a team. It is remarkable to see how the Spirit speaks to each of us through the same passage of Scripture each day. Two years ago, I would never have imagined myself actively agreeing as the Chief of Surgery outlined the solution to our problem with sterilization based upon a passage from Ezekiel! Now that sort of thing seems to be a regular occurrence as we continue to grow both in our knowledge of the Scriptures and in the unity of the Holy Spirit through using Mission 119 together.

As I journey with Dr. Soper through Mission 119, my appreciation for this fantastic tool continues to increase. It is perfect for both individual and small group Bible study, providing rich background and exposition while progressing at a manageable pace. Pastor Soper simplifies difficult passages of Scripture while allowing the reader/listener to interact with the Holy Spirit to apply truth to everyday life.
Our church has added the Mission 119 link to our website, to make it readily available for our entire congregation. In our busy lives, we strive for consistency in Bible reading, and this series of daily readings and brief messages is a great way to start the day. I know I’m going to be encouraged and challenged when I hear the words, “Good morning. This is Pastor Soper….”
Mission 119 has been an invaluable resource to ACAC. We packaged it as a 91-week congregational journey and reinforced the weekly reading assignments from the pulpit. As a result, over 2,000 adults in our ethnically diverse congregation developed the habit of daily biblical study- encouraged and assisted by John’s brief but insightful audio commentary. That’s why we are repeating the journey. I heartily recommend Mission 119 to any pastor individual or congregation with a hunger to know the Word of God and the God of the Word.

Today, I finished Mission 119 and I'm heeding your call to let you know how it has impacted me. So much in my life has changed since I started the journey with you. I got married, moved across the country (from CO to NJ), and started a new job in ministry at Princeton Alliance Church. In the midst of all that change and transition, my times in the word remained constant. God's word is alive and active, but also a steady foundation. I've been reflecting on how this journey through the Word has changed me, and I wish I could talk to my old self from two years ago to truly gauge the differences, but here are a few things that come to mind:
First of all, this has not been my first journey through each page of scripture. In fact, one of the more rewarding experiences I've had is a 90-day cover-to-cover read. I grew so much in my understanding of the "big" story through that experience. While I know I have not yet plumbed the absolute depths of scripture, I believe that Mission 119 helped me take some big steps deeper than I've been before. Here are a few words that come to mind in describing my experience:
Consistency: The struggle of my youth seems so distant now. It's been a privilege to return day after day to the Word, a brand-new pattern has developed in my heart (Romans 12:1) and in my head. It's one that I plan to continue building on.
Faith: I have been incredibly challenged and inspired by your faith in the midst of difficult passages. I always carried an attitude of "well I'll figure all this out at some point," but now I realize it's okay if I don't understand totally (not that I shouldn't continue to seek). I can still trust in the God I've experience and the God who reveals himself clearly in his word.
Understanding: On a regular basis, as I prepare message, I find things I've learned from Mission 119 resurfacing and guiding me.
Love: This is probably the most important gift of all. Before Mission 119, I knew the importance of scripture. I was even dedicated to growing in understanding, but I would say that my love for the word has grown exponentially in the last two years.
Thanks for being God's instrument in this journey. Thanks for praying for me at District Prayer Conference (that was a highlight).
Show more Show less We planted Building on the Rock Community Church in 2005, and quickly grew from a core group of just four people to 300 hundred. Exciting outreaches, awesome fellowship, great youth ministries, dynamic worship and hundreds of conversions. Our annual report recorded over a hundred baptisms in those first two years.
Then, Pastor John Soper visited our church and ruined (challenged) everything. He witnessed the fast growth and saw our Lord doing great things, but cautioned me that our church was "a mile wide and an inch deep." “Bobby,” he said, “grow the well deep!”
We took his advice and started to deeply evaluate our ministry and saw we were losing people as fast as we were gaining them; the new believers were leaving once the honeymoon was over. We tried different ways to help our new believers grow with little success beyond the basics of our faith. Very few of our people could afford formal Biblical training, and the resources available never seemed to fully give our people the solid Biblical foundation they desperately needed.
Then came Mission 119, "Know The Word.” This has quickly become one of the most powerful tools for transformation within our congregation. Since incorporating this tool into our arsenal, we have commissioned 9 pastors, 14 elders, planted two daughter churches, restarted three churches, and equipped missionaries and church planters. Without Mission 119, those works would have been based mostly upon the latest Christian fads, which likely would have ended soon after beginning. Instead, we have seen a longevity and maturity in our leaders (most, never formally trained) that have withstood the test of time. We highly recommend Mission 119 and believe God will use it to transform your church and leaders, as it has ours.

Good Morning Pastor John, I hope all is going well and that you are well on your way to recovery. I finished Mission 119 a few weeks ago and then started a Bible Reading Program to read the Bible in (1) year. I could not concentrate reading instead of listening as I had done through M119. All that to say I just finished day 1 of week 1 of M119. You have me back Pastor John, I missed it for those few weeks. I am looking forward to learning new Bible truths as I go through the study a second time. Please say hi to Mimi and I wish you both a Blessed New Year.
